Clinical Pilates

CLINICAL PILATES

Some of our Physiotherapists are trained in Pilates and may integrate it into their treatment approach. These sessions involve specific Pilates-based exercises, either on a mat or Pilates equipment, in our communal movement space.

The benefit of using the reformer or other Pilates equipment is we can either offload body weight for those who need more support, or add controlled resistance to those who need more challenge. The equipment is amazing at giving your body feedback to help you tune in and work on recruiting specific muscles or improve any non-optimal movement patterns.

Pilates can be a brain work out, as it focusses on the mind body connection and helps you build insight, control and confidence in the way your body moves. This can then be applied either to day to day life, sports, or wherever your body is tested. Pilates is a great way to cross train or build a strong movement foundation. As Pilates has such a strong core and breath focus, it’s the perfect pairing to pelvic physio for a life long cheerful and symptom free pelvis!

If your cheerful physio doesn’t offer Pilates and you’re interested in this approach, ask them about a referral. Our team are great at working together to get you the best care and results possible. If you are a new client keen for clinical Pilates as part of your treatment plan, please specify this during your match me process!

Rates are as per the treating physio’s standard physiotherapy rate, and a receipt for Pilates Physiotherapy is provided.

CLINICAL PILATES FAQ

WHAT IS IT?

Clinical Pilates physiotherapy treatments are offered by registered physiotherapists. They primarily focus on Pilates as a form of movement rehab, but might also include standard physio approaches, like hands-on care, other exercises, and education. Every client will get a full physio assessment to ensure the treatment is tailored to address their issues and meet their goals.

We use clinical Pilates in the treatment of specific conditions like incontinence, prolapse, and pelvic pain, and it is also great for prenatal and postpartum care. These appointments can be used as a sole treatment approach for your pelvic health concerns or can be booked in addition to pelvic floor physiotherapy appointments for a more well-rounded approach.

HOW CAN IT HELP?

For Every Body: Pilates meets you where you are at and bends itself to make sense for your body, your needs, and your goals.

Care Complement: We often use Pilates in addition to pelvic floor-specific treatments to teach clients how to move their bodies in more optimal ways.

Build Strength and Support: Pilates targets the quieter muscles in the body – the deeper layers of support for your skeleton – to make sure they are online and not being drowned out by the louder, powerful muscles. This helps build strength and integration from the inside out, as well as optimal resilience for sports, play, and other activities.
